Overview

BSN delivered a youth community project under the Government’s Youth Improvement Fund (YiF) Framework by overcoming initial budget challenges.

Through competitive tendering and value engineering workshops—optimizing design, materials, and removing mezzanine floors—the team aligned the scheme with the revised £950k budget after securing additional funding, ensuring both cost control and quality delivery.

BSN implemented a series of proactive measures to keep the project on track, including early construction start to expose structural conditions, collaborative on-site workshops for design alignment, and innovative cantilever scaffolding to avoid disruption to neighbours.

Rapid redesigns addressed foundation and steelwork issues, supported by specialist temporary works design for safety.

The programme was accelerated post-design freeze to meet the March deadline, urgent waterproofing was completed with guarantees, and all variations were absorbed into the revised schedule to safeguard funding.

Outcome

BSN successfully completed the youth community project under the YiF Framework, meeting the March 2025 funding deadline despite budget constraints, complex site conditions, and design challenges.
