Chellaston is a secondary school with a sixth form college. The project was carried out in eight phases across two distinct time periods.
The main scope of work included upgrading various areas to increase classroom capacity, creating new teaching kitchens, and adding additional toilet facilities.
We encountered and successfully addressed several challenges, including structural partitioning for AHUs, deat with asbestos found in column packers, installed replacement fire alarms, and even moving a jet engine! A key priority was safeguarding, we adhered to site protocols including using yellow and red ID lanyards to distinguish between those with and without DBS clearance.
BSN were appointed as Principal Contractor to deliver a large refurbishment project at Chellaston Academy. The project involved a number of complexities the most significant being the requirement to work in an occupied school. Good communication between BSN, the project team and client was therefore essential to ensure that the projects was delivered safely with no significant disruption to the school. The BSN project team, Andy Townsend and Neil Chapman, proactively engaged with the school throughout the project ensuring disruption was kept to a minimum and any client concerns or issues were quickly identified and actioned. BSN frequently went above and beyond the scope of the contract to maintain good relations with the client including purchasing new pots and pans for the food technology rooms refurbished during the project.
I would welcome the opportunity to work with BSN again in the future.
