BUILDING SAFETY ACT AND HIGHER-RISK BUILDINGS

BUILDING SAFETY ACT AND HIGHER-RISK BUILDINGS

Health, Safety, Environment & Quality

Health, Safety, Environment and Quality are fundamental to how BSN Group operates. We take a proactive, risk-led approach to HSEQ, embedding safety into planning, design coordination and delivery rather than treating it as a compliance afterthought. Our objective is simple: protect people, deliver industry leading quality, and create environments that are safe to build, occupy and maintain, all underpinned by our ‘Right First Time’ delivery model.

BSN Group is a proud RoSPA Gold Award winner, reflecting our sustained commitment to high standards of health and safety performance across our sites. Day-to-day assurance is supported by structured inspections, formal audits, digital reporting and clear close-out accountability, ensuring issues are addressed promptly and lessons learned are shared across the business.

While we also work closely with Building Safety Group who undertake third-party audits across all our site, this independent assurance ensures consistent standards across all our projects and provides our clients with confidence that risks are being effectively identified, managed and controlled.

Bringing Everyone Home Safe

Our HSEQ function is led by Jack Hughes, Group HSEQ Manager, who brings a pragmatic, delivery-focused approach to health and safety. Jack works closely with project teams and the supply chain to ensure that controls are proportionate, practical and effective, supporting safe productivity rather than constraining it. This approach fosters strong engagement on site and underpins our positive safety culture.

Building safety act & higher-risk building capability

BSN Group has established itself as a competent and reliable delivery partner for projects subject to the Building Safety Act 2022, including Higher-Risk Buildings (HRBs). We fully understand the heightened regulatory expectations introduced by the Act and have structured our systems, governance and project controls to meet these requirements from early design through to Gateway 3 and occupation.

We have extensive experience operating as Principal Contractor on HRB schemes, delivering detailed, regulator-ready Gateway 2 submissions supported by comprehensive Construction Control Plans, change control procedures, competence management frameworks and Golden Thread evidence strategies. Our approach is underpinned by early design certainty, rigorous coordination to RIBA Stage 4, and a strong focus on reducing post-approval change.

Digital delivery is central to our Building Safety Act compliance. We utilise a structured common data environment and integrated digital tools to manage design approvals, quality inspections, competence records and as-built evidence, ensuring information is accurate, traceable and readily available for Building Safety Regulator scrutiny.

BSN: Trained Mental Health First Aiders

Crucially, we take a collaborative, transparent approach with clients, designers and regulators. We recognise that HRB delivery demands clarity of roles, disciplined decision-making and a shared commitment to safety outcomes. By combining technical competence, robust systems and practical delivery experience, BSN Group provides clients with confidence that their HRB projects will be delivered safely, compliantly and with long-term building safety at the forefront.
